What is Tooth Extraction?
Tooth extraction is the removal of teeth that cannot be saved for various reasons from their socket using forceps and elevators. Advanced decay, periodontal disease, trauma, orthodontic necessity, or prosthetic planning are among tooth extraction indications.
Although the goal in modern dentistry is to preserve teeth, extraction becomes inevitable in some situations. Painless extraction is possible with effective anesthesia techniques. Socket preservation and timely prosthetic rehabilitation after extraction restore function and aesthetics.
Treatment Stages
Examination and Evaluation
Tooth condition, periodontal support, and root anatomy are evaluated with X-ray.
Anesthesia
Area is completely numbed with local anesthesia. Sedation can be applied in anxious patients.
Ligament Separation
Fibers holding the tooth in socket (periodontal ligament) are separated with elevator.
Luxation and Extraction
Tooth is grasped with forceps and removed from socket with controlled movements.
Socket Care
Socket is checked, curetted and bleeding control is achieved. Instructions are given.
Tooth Extraction Types
Simple Extraction
Removal of visible teeth with intact roots using standard forceps.
Atraumatic Extraction
Extraction with minimal trauma using periotomes and physics. Ideal for implant planned areas.
Serial Extraction
Removal of multiple teeth in the same session. Done before full dentures or immediate implants.
Socket Preserving Extraction
Filling socket with bone graft after extraction. Bone is preserved for implant.
How Is It Done?
Simple tooth extraction is performed under local anesthesia and usually takes 5-15 minutes.
